"Hier hat Etude, die Ausgangsbasis für Interleaf, sicher Pate gestanden: die Zeilen-Formatierung und die Seiten-Formatierung erfolgen getrennt, d.h. die Komponenten werden zunächst in sogenannte "galleys" formatiert, das sind in vertikaler Rich- tung endlose "Papierstreifen". Erst wenn nach einer Texteingabe diese interne Formatierung der Komponenten wieder in Ordnung gebracht ist, wird vom System untersucht, welche Komponen- ten sich verschoben haben, und für diese werden die Galleys neu in Seiten umgebrochen.“
