Hello Enrico. For your article, I suggest you to read the following pieces:


Aspray, William; Deb. Beaver, Donald (1986), "Marketing the monster: Advertising computer technology". Annals of the History of Computing, vol.8, n.2.

Moor, Liz (2008), "Branding consultants as cultural intermediaries". The Sociological Review, vol.56, n.3.

Wasiak, Patryk (2013), "Computer Dealer Demos: Selling home computers with bouncing balls and animated logos". IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, vol.3, n.4, pp.56-68.

I would also read the work from Paul du Gay. As far as I know, his articles are not focused on computing technology, even though he developed a strong theoretical framework when analyzing ads on media technology. For example:
Du Gay, P.; Hall, S.; Janes, L.; Mackay, H.; Negus, K. (1997), Doing cultural studies: The story of the Sony walkman. Sage Publications & The Open University.

Let me know your progress in this article, I am very interested on this topic too.

Dear list members,

For an article I’m writing I am interested in the history of computer adverts in newspapers (1955-1995), but I am having a hard time to find literature on the topic.

Maybe some of you could suggest me some literature on computer advertising ?

Also, I would be interested to find collections of computer adverts, possibly digitized and accessible online. Any suggestions ?
