[Forwarded from James Sumner. Wilkes was probably (at least I can't immediately think of any others) the last surviving leader or senior participant from the major experimental computing projects of the 1940s.] Dear listmembers Sir Maurice Wilkes, leader of the EDSAC project, longterm (1949-1980) director of the University of Cambridge Mathematical/Computer Laboratory, microprogramming theorist and founding president of the British Computer Society, died yesterday, 29 November 2010, at the age of 97. The BCS has an obituary here: http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=conWebDoc.38150 Best regards James
