Dear SIGCIS Members, On behalf of my co-editor, Kazunori Nozawa, and myself, I am pleased to share this call for chapter contributions to our upcoming edited volume: AI in Language Education: Personalized Learning for ESL/EFL, to be published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group). This book will be published by CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group), a venue recognized for its commitment to technical and scientific excellence. We particularly welcome contributions from a technical history perspective on AI applications in language education. This might include the historical development and evolution of relevant NLP techniques, machine learning models, speech synthesis systems, or other AI components used for personalized learning; trajectories of key tools and algorithms in educational contexts; or the socio-technical history of deploying custom AI solutions for language learners. Project Overview While much of the current literature focuses on generic AI tools, this volume emphasizes the design and implementation of AI solutions tailored to the specific needs of language learners. We are seeking contributions that move beyond general theory to provide researchers and practitioners with technical depth and actionable insights. Key themes include: • Technical Implementation: Insights into the architecture of custom AI tools, such as NLP, machine learning, and speech synthesis, or related. • Actionable Strategies: Data-driven methodologies for designing and deploying personalized learning paths, or related. • Comprehensive Language Skills: Deep dives into AI-powered solutions for both productive skills (speaking and writing) and receptive skills (listening and reading), or related. • Human-Centric Perspectives: Exploring the social, ethical, and pedagogical dimensions of AI, including human-AI collaboration, learner agency, and the evolving role of the educator, or related. Submission Details As this is a CRC Press volume, we encourage the inclusion of technical artifacts—such as diagrams, frameworks, or algorithmic workflows—to support your findings. • Length: 3,000 to 5,000 words (including notes and references). • Timeline: The final manuscript is due approximately 2026/12/01.
