Electronic copy of Jean Sammet's 'Programming Languages: History and Fundamentals' 1969
Dear All, Could anyone share with me an electronic copy of Jean Sammet’s book ‘Programming Languages: History and Fundamentals’ from 1969, or could point me to where I could get/access a copy? I’ve looked in all my usual spots to no avail. Apologies if I missed something obvious. There is a copy temporarily readable on HathiTrust, but not downloadable. I’m surprised this isn’t more accessible. Best, David +++++++++++++++ David C. David, I only ever came across a hard copy in our Tech Library. I agree - a readily available digital edition should be out there for all (curse you, Hathi Trust 🙂) - it's a foundational document. There was a scheme where ACM put up digital copies of important “out of print” books (I know this because the 1989 “Essays in Computing Science” (Hoare & Jones) is available this way) Have you checked w ACM? cliff On 2021-04-21, at 18:39, Dave Foster <dwfoster1@outlook.com<mailto:dwfoster1@outlook.com>> wrote: ⚠ External sender. Here's the site Cliff mentioned. https://dl.acm.org/collections/classics But even the ACM wasn't able to put all of the identified classics up for free. -- SamR

Dear Bo and David, Thank you for this thread and for opening a conversation on the accessibility of fundamental texts in the discipline. I thought for sure I had a digital version of the Sammet volume to share with David, and just went hunting to no avail. Would you be able to share with me as well, Bo? Thank you. Does Prentice-Hall still have the rights to this volume, I wonder? Best, Andrew On Wed, Apr 21, 2021 at 1:51 PM Bo An <bo.an@yale.edu> wrote:
