I thought you should be aware that David Caminer, one of the people behind LEO, died just over a week ago age 93.

As someone who was a systems analyst working on LEO III mainframe computers in the early 1970s my overriding memory is of hours and hours spent reading out and checking hundreds of pages of numbers with the programmers. The LEO of course predated compilers.
