All,
I just received a note via a long chain that ended with Mary Croarken about a new web page by Denis Roegel that presents a very complete analysis of most of the major mathematical table projects prior to the 20th century, including both Vlacq and Prony.  While the subject predates the interests of many on this list, it remains an important part of computing history and deserves to be better known.    The link is http://www.loria.fr/~roegel/locomat.html
