[SIGCIS-Members] possible SIGCIS glitch

I suspect this is a side effect of some recent tightening in handling mail headers by the big email providers like Google, because of spam. The “From” line email address ends up having to be the list name, because the list server appears to be the one originating the email. As far as I can tell, different email clients are handling it a bit differently, and may or may not have been updated to deal with how to display the email sender information better.

This breaks with decades of email behavior on the net, but old-school email lists like this are small relative to the overall volume of email and spam.

Best,

Win

If so I thought I’d mention a weird glitch in case you hear from others that it’s happening on the SIGCIS end: for the past week or two, every message on the list has come through with sender “Jonathan Coopersmith via Members.” (It took me a couple posts to realize Jonathan hadn’t simply become an exceptionally active list member!)
