I was very saddened to hear of Prof. Lawrence’s untimely passing last week. In addition to being a vibrant scholar, she was a remarkably kind and generous person. I know she will be missed by so many in the fields she touched. In lieu of sending flowers to her funeral this week, her family has asked people to contribute to a one-time scholarship fund for a student in need, if they feel moved to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-celebration-of-halcyon-lawrence/donations?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer
In addition to this sad news, I’m not sure if this was ever posted on this list, but sigcis member Prof. David Golumbia also passed away recently, in September. A posthumous book on technolibertarianism will be published by UMinn Press. Like Hal, he was a very kind person who always tried to stand up for what was right, in addition to being an insightful scholar.
They will both be missed and remembered by many, I'm sure.

Dear SIGCIS,
I am very sad to report that Halcyon Lawrence has passed away. Some of you may remember her fantastic talk on voice recognition technology and accent bias at the SIGCIS conference at the CHM in 2017 or may know her essay in Your Computer Is on Fire, on "Siri Disciplines".
