Congratulations, Yarden! I look forward to reading!

One of the things I love about being on this list is all the book and article announcements. Thanks in part to those announcements I as a prof can help students who come to me with such messages as the below. I look forward to recommending Joy’s own recent book publication to this student, among the many other wonderful publications on gender in this field:

Dear Prof. Walker,
… I am developing a project on the decline of women in the field of computer science and I would be interested in discussing my research plans with you. …Are you available and able to meet with me by then? If so, what are your office hours and can I schedule an appointment?
Thank you very much for your time and advice.

Be safe and well, everybody! Barbara

Dear Yarden,

Congratulations on your book! I’m very happy to see this out in the world. It’s an important and sorely needed contribution to how we think about race, gender, technology, and power — all the more resonant at this moment when there’s a dire lack of diversity in tech and there are global protests against white supremacy and the harmful logics of policing and carceral technologies. I’m ordering my copy right away.

Congratulations once again!
Warm regards,
Joy
