Dear friends -

The SHOT Annual meeting is right around the corner - October 24-27 - so I thought I’d write with a few reminders and announcements for SIGCIS-related events. NB: online registration is now closed, but onsite registration will be available in Milan.

SHOT program: https://www.historyoftechnology.org/annual-meeting/2019-shot-annual-meeting-24-27-october-milan-italy/ <https://www.historyoftechnology.org/annual-meeting/2019-shot-annual-meeting-24-27-october-milan-italy/>

Of particular note on the SHOT program is the Friday SIGCIS Lunch meeting, along with several sessions on the history of computing and information as well as the role of computation in other domains, from art and sound to video storytelling, medicine, and mysticism. It is an exceptionally large and fascinating program!

Please bring some extra Euros to the Friday SIGCIS lunch meeting. We’ll be mixing it up this year by running a book raffle, in the place of our traditional book auction. Laine Nooney and Con Diaz are in charge, and we’re depending, as always, on book donations from our members! If you plan to bring a book or two, it will help us tremendously if we know the title and author in advance—so please do some planning and then send that information to me. In addition, we will once again feature some new titles donated by our friends at MIT Press.

Finally, we’re really excited about our Sunday SIGCIS Conference, “EXCEPTION ERROR: Fatal, Illegal, Unknown.” The schedule - packed, as always, with amazing papers - is here: http://meetings.sigcis.org/ <http://meetings.sigcis.org/>. We will begin the program on Sunday by announcing and celebrating the 2019 winners of the CHM Prize <http://www.sigcis.org/chmprize>, the Mahoney Prize <http://www.sigcis.org/mahoneyprize>, and the SIGCIS Travel Awards <http://www.sigcis.org/travelaward> including the CHM Travel Award, MIT Press Travel Award, and Michael S. Mahoney Travel Award.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to meeting up again in Milano!
