I recently became familiar with *The Computer Book: From the Abacus to
Artificial Intelligence, 250 Milestones in the History of Computer Science
<https://www.sterlingpublishing.com/9781454926214/>* by Simson L Garfinkel
and Rachel H. Grunspan.

It's worth checking out. Garfinkel is an ACM Fellow, and just became an
IEEE Fellow. He also co-wrote this March *ACM Communications* story
Understanding
Database Reconstruction Attacks on Public Data
