great thread & thanks for all the pointers. however, as a european the most interesting thing in regard to automation that made a difference for what i can read here and overseas in the archives and online is the paper from the ad hoc committee "triple revolution", 1964: https://www.marxists.org/history/etol/newspape/isr/vol25/no03/adhoc.html
