Dear colleagues,

CBI is very pleased to announce the availability of the Carl Machover Papers, 1967-2007. This is a large and unique collection of rich archival materials providing unparalleled documentation on the emergence of computer graphics. (Sorry for all the superlatives.) Highlights of the 283 cubic feet include . . .

Nine series including Job Files, Correspondence, Subject Files, Data Sheets, Research Files, Course Files, General Files, Audiovisual, and Books -- development of the computer graphics industry from the early 1970s to the near-present;

Business records of Machover Associates (including extensive correspondence with computer companies, research institutes, universities, etc.), approximately 600 video tapes and CDs, about 300 related books, and long runs of pertinent periodicals;

Topics . . . including 3-D imaging, applied and color graphics, ergonomics, games and entertainment, image processing, modeling and animation, output and display devices, electronic and optical publishing, high speed scanning, computer art, global positioning systems, robotics, weather simulation, virtual reality, CAD-CAM, and more;

Machover, besides running his consulting company, served in leadership positions for ACM's SIGGRAPH <http://purl.umn.edu/41147>; the Society for Information Display (SID); the National Computer Graphics Association (NCGA); Art and Science Collaborations Inc. (ASCI); Computer Graphics Pioneers; and the Pratt Center for Computer Graphics in Design.

It's an unusual collection, virtually complete and intact.

Please have a look here: <http://purl.umn.edu/98190>

With these larger collections, I often find "hidden gems" using some judicious subject-term searching here <http://discover.lib.umn.edu/findaid/>.

Best, Tom
